Porcelain Veneer Treatment

Improve the appearance of your teeth with porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are custom made thin shells of ceramic designed to cover your tooth or teeth to improve their appearance.

Porcelain veneers can change the colour, length and size of a tooth to improve the appearance of a tooth or teeth especially teeth that have gaps, chips, cracks or are discoloured.

Why have a Veneer?
Over time our teeth are susceptible to damage and decay often leading to cracks and chips which can look unsightly, veneers are a great way to restore your smile giving the tooth a natural healthy looking appearance. Porcelain veneers are very thin and are adhered to the tooth by a special dental adhesive, they require very little preparation

Porcelain Veneers - The Process

After preparation, a dental impression is taken to send to our dental technician in order to make the veneer, instructions include shade of the veneer, we want the best shade match possible for you and we also include other information relevant to the specific patient case.

Once the veneer is ready (usually this takes around 10/14 days), on your next visit the veneer is bonded to the tooth after checking the colour, size etc., first.

Between the preparation and fit stage most patients do not require a temporary veneer as the preparation to your existing tooth is minimal, but your tooth will feel less smooth in this interim period.

Alternatives to Veneers

Natural looking composite fillings can be used to restore a tooth. These fillings are perfectly adequate but in some cases, they may not work as well as veneers i.e., if you have a discoloured tooth then a filling generally does not cover the whole of a tooth or where a tooth has broken corners there is always a join between the filling and tooth.

If you have a tooth that has a very large filling or has had root canal treatment, dental crowns are often used as a restoration to strengthen the tooth.

Veneers should last for many years; but like your own teeth they can chip or break.
